Description of Online Test

Online Test consisted of two parts- 1. Aptitude Test (60 Mins, 60 Questions): General Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability. 2. Technical Test (30 Mins, 30-45 Questions*): Conceptual questions from Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Mechanics of Solids, Materials Engineering & Heat Transfer. *: Not exactly sure about number of questions.

Description of Technical interview

There was one interview round where they asked both technical and personality based questions. Technical Interview included- 1. Technical questions relevant to my projects and internship- - Why was so and so decision taken. - What was the use of a particular component/technique and how it works. - Internship experience (Problems solved, Methodology adopted, Conclusions gathered). 2. Core Mechanical Engineering (Studied as part of course)- - Pumps and cavitation in pumps. - Common thermodynamic cycles used in IC engines. 3. General applications of Mechanical Engineering (Not studied explicitly as part of course)- - Automobile powertrain working. - Electric Vehicle components.

Description of HR round

The personality based questions were asked in the same interview, those had to be answered by thinking about past experiences, using STAR method. These questions were asked- 1. Tell us about the time you motivated a teammate during a project. 2. Tell us about the time you exceeded your leader/senior's expectations. 3. Tell us about the time you could not meet your leader/senior's expectations. 4. Tell us about your time management strategy. The interview ended by them asking if I had any questions. I asked them regarding their expectations from a graduate engineer joining Exxon. To which they replied and asked two follow up questions- 1. What should we expect from you as a fresher joining ExxonMobil? 2. What are your expectations from our company?

What should be the preparation strategy for an aspiring candidate?

Following strategy worked quite well for me- 1. Solving plenty of aptitude questions for OT. 2. Have conceptual understanding of fundamental subjects in mechanical engineering. 3. Making a detailed but concise resume, it should deliver all the important information about your skills and experience but at the same time should not be long. 4. Write an essay about yourself. That includes info about your academics, interests, projects, internships and other experiences, till date. This helps in formulating answers for HR interviews.

Resources for Preparation

1. Aptitude Test: CAT preparation books by Arun Sharma, IndiaBix, and FacePrep. 2. Technical Test/Interview: Read topics from the referred textbooks for particular subjects. 3. Communication/Verbal Ability: Read any good non-fiction novels (200-400 pages) and News (Economic Times, The Mint, etc.). 4. Resume: Jeff Su (https://www.youtube.com/c/JeffSu), The Urban Fight (https://www.youtube.com/c/TheUrbanFight), articles on some websites and LinkedIn. 5. Interview Specific: LinkedIn Interview Prep articles and videos(https://www.linkedin.com/interview-prep).
